What You Need to Know About Stage 30
You’ve been on the Camino de Santiago for over four weeks now! Santiago is getting closer every day, but today The French Way has one more challenge for you: some athletic climbs totaling about 500 meters of elevation gain over 25 kilometers.
Don’t worry though – after a month of walking, your body can handle this. You’re way stronger than when you started!
Today’s scenery: You’ll walk from Portomarín through the gorgeous green landscapes of Galicia to Palas de Rei. The name might sound royal („Palas de Rei“ means „Palace of the King“), but this little town of just 5,000 people is pretty humble!
Accommodation paradise: The good news is Palas de Rei has TONS of albergues – more than half a dozen options. With all the pilgrims passing through (especially those who started in Sarria), the town needs all that capacity!
You’ll have plenty of choices for where to stay, so don’t stress if your first pick is full. The yellow scallop shells will guide your way, as always.
You’re in the final stretch now! These last few days on the Camino Francés are special. Every step brings you closer to Santiago, and you can really feel the anticipation building. Soak it all in – the green Galician countryside, the fellow pilgrims, the simple rhythm of walk-eat-sleep that’s become your life.
Planning your final days and thinking about Santiago? Our eBook „Camino Francés for Beginners“ guides you through what to expect in Santiago, the pilgrim mass, getting your Compostela certificate, and how to process the end of your incredible journey.
Bottom line: One more moderately challenging day through beautiful Galicia with plenty of accommodation options at the end. You’re so close now!
Buen Camino! 🥾💚
