What You Need to Know About Stage 17
HUGE MILESTONE TODAY! You’ve officially walked more than half of the 800 kilometers of the Camino Francés! If you’re walking the entire route in one go, you get to look forward to just as many beautiful days ahead. If you’re doing it in sections, this might be where you pause and pick up again next year.
About today’s route: Different Camino guidebooks don’t always agree on stage lengths. Some recommend a brutal 39-kilometer day all the way to Sahagún. But seriously, why would you do that if you don’t have to?
We’re going with the more reasonable 26-kilometer option to Terradillos de los Templarios. It’s still a solid day of walking on The French Way!
Real talk: Parts of today aren’t the prettiest. You’ll walk near the highway for a bit, and the Meseta landscape can feel pretty barren and endless. It’s windy, often cold, and the flat terrain goes on forever. Some pilgrims find this stretch meditative; others find it a bit of a slog.
But hey, this is part of the Camino de Santiago experience too! Not every day is postcard-perfect, and that’s okay. These challenging stretches often teach us the most about ourselves.
