What You Need to Know About Stage 27
Remember yesterday when we said stopping in La Faba was the smart move? Here’s why: Right after leaving La Faba this morning, you’ve got that short but intense climb up to O Cebreiro at 1,300 meters above sea level. Fresh legs make all the difference!
O Cebreiro is MAGICAL! This ancient stone village in the misty Galician mountains is one of the most atmospheric spots on the entire Camino de Santiago. The traditional pallozas (round stone houses with thatched roofs) look like they’re straight out of a fairy tale. It’s absolutely worth taking your time here for photos and soaking up the vibes.
Big milestone: You’re officially in Galicia now! This is one of Spain’s most beautiful regions, and you’ll immediately notice the difference. Say hello to lush green landscapes, rivers, incredible seafood, and Albariño wine (the best white wine in Spain!). The scenery is about to get seriously gorgeous.
After O Cebreiro? The good news is it’s mostly downhill from here! You’ll descend about 600 meters to Triacastela. With 26 kilometers total and that morning climb, today’s not super easy, but it’s totally manageable at this point in your journey.
Many guidebooks make the O Cebreiro climb sound terrifying, but honestly? After nearly a month of walking, most pilgrims find it’s not as bad as they feared. You’re way stronger than you think!
Excited about entering Galicia? Our eBook „Camino Francés for Beginners“ gives you the lowdown on what makes Galicia special, including food recommendations, cultural insights, and what to expect in this final region before Santiago.
Bottom line: A challenging but rewarding day that takes you through one of the Camino’s most iconic villages and into beautiful Galicia. You’re so close now!
Buen Camino! 🥾🌿
