What You Need to Know About Stage 5
Here’s a fun bit of Camino history: Today marks where the „true“ pilgrimage path begins! At your starting point in Puente de la Reina, two historic routes merge – the Navarrese Way (Camino Francés, your route) and the Aragonese Way. From here on out, all pilgrims walk the same path to Santiago.
Today’s walk on The French Way covers just over 20 kilometers with about 350 meters of elevation gain. Nothing too crazy after what you’ve already conquered!
Your destination is Estella, a charming town of around 15,000 people that seems to be playing hide-and-seek. Tucked away and surrounded by mountains, Estella sits protected in a valley – you’ll love the approach as the town reveals itself.
The landscape continues to be stunning with fields and rolling hills keeping you company throughout the day. You’re really finding your Camino rhythm now!
Need help planning your Camino? Our eBook „Camino Francés for Beginners“ covers everything from what gear to pack, how to get to the starting point, and which stages offer the best scenery along the Camino de Santiago.
Bottom line: A solid but manageable day of walking leading to a beautiful mountain town. You’re definitely getting the hang of this!
Buen Camino! 🥾
