What You Need to Know About Stage 9
Good news – today’s stage on The French Way is way shorter than the last couple of days! Despite the long name of your destination, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, you’re only walking 22 kilometers over about 4.5 hours.
There is one little kicker though: a decent climb waiting for you at the end of the day. But honestly? After nine days of daily walking, your legs are probably in pretty good shape by now. You’ll handle it no problem!
About Santo Domingo de la Calzada: This town is a total gem on the Camino de Santiago. It’s named after Saint Dominic (Santo Domingo), who built bridges, roads, and a pilgrim hospital here in the 12th century to help pilgrims on their journey. The town literally grew around this pilgrim hospitality – pretty cool, right?
The place has serious Camino history and culture, making it one of those towns where you really feel connected to the centuries of pilgrims who walked before you.
After you arrive, treat yourself to a hot shower and a delicious dinner. You’ve earned it after over a week on the trail!
